President’s Message

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under
The heaven;
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to reap;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance…
As with nature, so are we.

As most of you know, I lost my Dear Mother on November 22. Words cannot describe my emptiness. One thing stood out during this time of my life…. and that is the value of friendships.

I want to thank you for all of your hugs, your words of
encouragement, your cards, flowers, visits, donations to our
church…. and love. During this season of my life, it meant the world to me.

One item I would like you to think about during the next few months is a change in our Club calendar.  I’ve noticed that many garden clubs meet in the summer months. This certainly makes sense to me because this is the  “Season” of growing. There are so many treasures in our gardens during June and July that could be shared in our Horticulture tournaments…and the designers could use flowers from the garden rather than having to buy them.

I’ve asked many people why we don’t meet during the summer. and the only reply I’ve received is, “That’s the way its always been!” or “People go on vacation during this time.  Please consider this…we are not “glued” into what has always been and I believe that more people are vacationing during the winter months than the summer. We have many “snowbirds” in our organization.

So, please consider changing our Club calendar.  It will probably take at least a year to do this because of our Yearbook, etc. We could meet in the months of March, April, May, June, July, September, October, and November. We will discuss this at meetings, etc. but I wanted to have you start thinking about this change.  Continue to read your gardening books and seed catalogs and spring will be here before you know it!
